I realize that 2009 is far from over, but since we are in the summer blockbuster season, I thought it would be an appropriate time to present a list of the 10 best films of 2009 (so far). There are some great ways that are affected Sherlock Holmes, then there may be some small changes, if everything is said and done, but overall I’m pretty sure this is about how things shake themselves. Without further ado, here are my picks for the best films of the year to date:
10 – I Love You Man – Paul Rudd in Anchorman fame and Jason Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and TV’s How I Met Your Mother team in this classic buddy film about a man who discovered the commitment that he has none, get friends, to defend him at his wedding. Under the urging of her friend Peter Klaven (Rudd) goes on a series of events “man” in the search for a friend and find a better human potential. After several spectacular failures, he met with Sidney Fife (sailing), a painfully honest, and faithful friend. Although seemingly polar opposites of the pair is directly concerned, mainly because of a mutual love of the rock band Rush. However, the fiancĂ©e of Peter Zooey (Rashida Jones) is less than impressed to be Sidney’s influence on her husband.
The film is clever and consistently funny throughout, and has a strong support cast including Jon Favreau, JK Simmons, Jaime Pressley, Andy Sandberg and Jane Curtin. If you missed this in theaters sure to pick it up on DVD, because it is one of the funniest movies of the year.
9 – Coraline – One of the best films of the year is also one of the most unusual. Acting with the voice of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher and Ian McShane is an animated film Coraline, who see quite different from the normal range you Pixar and DreamWorks. Fanning voices the main character discovers Coraline Jones a secret door in her house, goes through and discovers an alternate reality in real life. The animation is first-class act with stop-motion stereoscopic 3D, and combined with the voice, action and fascinating as the film is an instant classic that will be enjoyed for years by the children and adults.
8 – Watchmen – To be honest, when I heard this movie was coming out, I think he would have finished much higher on the list of best films of the year. This does not mean that I was disappointed – I really liked the movie great – but not quite as much as I thought.
Very different from typical superhero films like Spiderman and X-Men movie is definitely darker, Gritty side in the spirit of a film like Sin City. The film is not as action packed as I expected, and tends to wander and / or drag in parts. However, the quality is top notch and the story of Rorschach (Jackie Earle Hayley) is particularly good. For fans of the graphic novel this film could be something of a disappointment, but it is much better than big-budget movies such as GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
7 – Public Enemies – Johnny Depp is to work one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood today. He plays a pirate crazy, demon barber, or in this case, the legendary gangster John Dillinger, he is always very credible. Public Enemies is a very good film, although it is not a challenge for Goodfellas or other movies of this caliber as one of the best gangster films of all time. As the film seems to fall between points Watchmen, but there is enough done to all times to keep from always too impatient. Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis is not as good as Depp, but done a service.
Despite some minor shortcomings Public Enemies is still worth seeing at least once, and set-design and digital imaging in the film are as good as it goes.
6 – The Hurt Locker – Of all the movies on this list, with the possible exception of Coraline, The Hurt Locker is the most misunderstood. With names like Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes and even Evangeline Lily’s Lost TV star a decent, but do not get the movie for some reason the promotion he deserved. As emotional as it is exciting The Hurt Locker say offers viewers a glimpse into an elite unit that camped unenviable task (to disarm least) bombs in the midst of battle has. If you are among those who have heard of this movie are really to check if it hits DVD.
5 – Inglorious Bastards – There was a lot of hype around this film with director Quentin Tarantino and Holly A list includes actor Brad Pitt, the film in anticipation of high is not really a shock. Tarantino is back in a big way, after mixed reviews of his latest film “Death Proof, to kill with the story of a group of Jewish-American soldiers who sow terror in the ranks of the enemies brutal Nazis. Pitt is in the lead role as Lieutenant Aldo Raine excellent, and if the movie 2.5 hours long, you will never move. If you hurry you can still catch it in theaters. Otherwise, you must wait several months until he sees the light of day on DVD.
4 – Up – as good as Coraline, she could not dethrone the 800 pound gorilla Pixar for the title of best animated film of 2009. Pixar, a bit like Johnny Depp, just never seem to make a bad film, and have charged no matter how much praise on them for a movie, they somehow seem to outdo the other.
Ed Asner, who was as good as Lou Grant on television a few years ago, he proves still not lost its capacity to act, turning in an outstanding performance as the voice of Carl Fredricksen, exposing an irascible old man on an incredible adventure in the twilight of his made to meet life, a promise of his deceased wife. The film, like all Pixar films, a lot of humor, but also moments when you blink make you cry again. If you are a fan of Pixar movies, you have probably already seen it, but had you dismissed as a children’s film that it proved itself a disservice, and you should make sure that you pick up on DVD (or Blu-Ray) a day his hits stores.
3 – District 9 – Although there are many who are this film, the sci-fi claim the greatest of all time I would not go that far. However, there is an incredible and impressive debut director Neil Blomkamp. The film is very rare, since the beginning for the simple fact of creation. The story is set in South Africa, a refreshing departure from other foreign “invasion” of films that seem to always take place place on American soil. As you can see I have the word in quotation marks invasion. This is not your typical movie, where to defend the troops of the Army and some civilians extraordinary Earth from destruction by aliens unwelcome visitors. Instead, the foreign body is unknown, and they were forced into slums and isolated under the watchful eye of the army. I will not go into too many details, but suffice it to say that the film is very different than any science fiction movie I’ve ever seen.
2 – The cat – Although it might not have enjoyed the reviews from many other movies that list, the cat deserves his place because he’s come to one of the funniest comedy movies years ago. Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis outrageously funny film about two friends (and a little to his brother-in-law), to take their friend Doug to Las Vegas for his bachelor party. As so often in Las Vegas (in real life) things too fast by the hand and after a night of debauchery that the team wakes up and discovers sorry they lost their friend. Can to remember what happened, they must try to trace their steps from the night to try to find Doug and give it temporary home for their wedding.
Remember to stay out until the end. The slide show during the credits is as funny as the main movie.
1 – Star Trek – With so many installments of the classic science fiction venerable-yet it seemed unlikely that would increase another chapter to the number one on the list of the 10 best films of 2009. But it is here. Why, you ask? Quite simply, this is not your father’s Star Trek. The series has been completely reinvented, much in the way that Batman Begins was a few years ago. It is darker, more violent and dark as all previous installments.
This film is actually a prequel to the others, and follows the adventures of a young James Kirk, explaining how he came to the Academy, met Spock, Bones, Scotty and the rest of the crew, and finally captain of the starship Enterprise.
If you’re not a fan of the original series and stayed away from this film as a result, you’re wrong. This film is great without a Trekkie Die Hard, and if you have not seen you have your calendar for 17 November mark the day when they will be available on DVD.
