Cowboy Culture: 3 Movies That Teach the Western Genre

A sun slip behind a mountain chain, the creaking of saddle leather, the clinking of spurs … a tanned man seated dirt, striated on top of his horse in motion. It tips the hem of his worn, crumpled hat and weasels, quietly over the horizon. An integral part of classic Americana, Western, can be used by teachers to the westward expansion and perhaps even more interesting, the myth of the American Adam, a present of many topics related to myths of the Western genre. With popular movies like High Noon, The Searchers, Fort Apache, a public spirit and aesthetics to capture a golden age, we dream of love, these films are much more than stupid “shoot-em-up.”

High Noon has a fascinating story as an allegory of the Red Scare of 1940 and end of 1950. It was only because the filmmakers have managed to hide their political intentions. When the story begins to release a criminal from prison and made his way back into the city, he had terrorized. The rest of the gang waiting for his arrival on the noon train. Married the same day, Marshal of the city, the man who banned in prison, retired and a beautiful woman. They should leave the city for her new life. When former marshal learns that the villain is back in town decided to stay and fight the marshal or to wash their hands in the city and continue his plans. They can be used not only High Noon, be to discuss the activities of McCarthy in the 1940s and 50s, but it can be successfully used by ELA classes as well. The study as an allegory, and generate discussion on topics such as the icon, the opposition and patterns.
